On January 11, 2025, The International Sisterhood Alliance took a monumental step in its mission to empower and uplift global communities. The organization carried out a large-scale donation of essential medicines, bringing vital healthcare resources to underserved regions and making a tangible difference in the lives of many.
We celebrated International Women's Day on March 8! Women and men took to the streets to advocate for rights of women. They changed slogans for women's rights as they marched down the streets of Kobala, the capital and largest town in Koinaduja District in northern Sierra Leone.
Our second annual Women's Wellness Event took place on December 28, 2020! We will be making another humanitarian visit to Sagarileh Village. In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, the community is especially vulnerable. Your contribution will help us to improve the lives of women and children.
The International Sisterhood Alliance, in conjunction with civil societies in Sierra Leone, is soliciting funds to feed the physically challenged and mentally ill. The COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in a reduction of food to these rural communities, and these vulnerable populations have been especially affected.
Last winter, Dr. Sylvia Njai delivered a presentation to the women in Sagarileh. Topics included hygiene, as it relates to personal care, cooking, and the home. The women and their children were given care packages of toothpaste and other toiletries.
Last summer, our founder, Nimatu Bah Hughes, visited her mother's village of Sagalireh Village in the Koinadugu District. She spoke to several elders and women of the village to get an update on their living conditions. Inadequate access to medical care continues to be an ongoing issue.
Last spring, we attended the sixty-third session of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women in Manhattan, New York. Issues addressed included women empowerment through sustainable development. This conference was held in Manhattan, New York, from March 11-22, 2019.
